Senior Site Engineer - Manchester
Role
We are recruiting for a Senior Site Engineer to work on our large build scheme in Manchester. The Senior Site Engineer manages the engineering function as the senior representative, coordinates with the line manager, and provides engineering leadership for their respective project(s). They set the strategy for engineering, including setting out and onsite control, along with the Engineer/Assistant Engineer and supply chain. The Senior Site Engineer is the primary point of reference for QA, record keeping, and production, ensuring the establishment and maintenance of Sisk quality procedures and requirements. They also take responsibility for Temporary Works control/coordination and actively manage lifting operations where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrates advanced awareness in dimensional control and is comfortable rotating global grids into local grid format.
- Ensures site and graduate engineers manage survey equipment effectively.
- Ensures completion of as-built surveys for key elements and analyzes details across interfaces to highlight potential problems.
- Maintains an individual daily diary.
- Possesses competence in quality control principles for most packages, reviews, and creates Inspection & Test Plans, with advanced knowledge of packages like concrete, drainage, steelwork, and brickwork.
- Understands project specifications, especially tolerances for vertical and horizontal structural elements.
- Controls the components of the SISK Non-Conformance procedure, creates and closes out NCRs promptly, understanding the cost implications of defects and remedial works.
- Is competent in issuing "Permits to break ground" and can review and create method statements and risk assessments.
- Identifies missing information and has a good working knowledge of the project RFI process.
- Undertakes the role of Temporary Works Coordinator when appointed, ensuring procedures are implemented.
- Acts as Project Lifting Operations Appointed Person when appointed.
- Provides information to the project planner for updating programmes and leads site and graduate engineers, demonstrating best practices.
- Is fully aware of existing and proposed services locations.
- Stops site works when safety risks are identified.
- Collaborates with other engineers and utilizes their experience.
- Develops consent schedules and understands key parties involved.
- Takes responsibility for ground validation reports to meet planning obligations.
- Develops project logistics and contributes to establishing the programme to completion.
- Highlights trade progress and resource issues.
- Leads engineering teams of various sizes.
- Acts as a point of contact for technical, temporary works, and lifting audits, ensuring actions are closed timely.
- Participates in health, safety, and environmental presentations and provides input.
- Assists in design approval processes and benchmarks.
- Supervises and mentors less experienced engineers.
- Drafts, monitors, and updates short-term programmes.
Experience & Skills
- Understanding of underground service dangers and risk control procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Competent in digital information systems like A-Site, Viewpoint for Projects.
- Significant experience in design management processes.
Qualifications / Training
- Managing Safety in Construction training.
- First Aid certification.
- Service avoidance course.
- Possibly B.Eng/M.Eng.
- Temporary Works Co-ordinator training.
- Lifting Operations basic awareness course.
- A61 CPCS Lifting Operations Appointed Persons course.
- Working towards professional status (e.g., ICE, CIOB).
