Job description

Ready to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the UK’s most critical nuclear infrastructure? Do you have proven experience developing nuclear safety justifications and want to influence major new-build dock and facility projects?

The Opportunity

An established engineering consultancy serving the defence sector is seeking a Senior Safety Case Engineer to support a major programme of work for new dock facilities and supporting infrastructure. You’ll join a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team in Glasgow tasked with shaping the safety justification for high-integrity nuclear systems, ensuring designs meet regulatory, operational and safety expectations throughout their lifecycle.

We would also welcome applications from professionals within defence engineering, nuclear energy, high-hazard process industries, power generation and complex infrastructure environments.

This role would suit candidates working as nuclear safety engineers, safety case authors, design substantiation engineers, nuclear systems engineers, safety assurance specialists, safety consultants, hazard analysts, regulatory compliance engineers or defence infrastructure engineers.

Your duties and responsibilities will be:
  • Developing, managing and maintaining safety case and design substantiation documentation for nuclear‑related infrastructure.
  • Assessing and providing feedback on technical and safety case deliverables produced by external suppliers.
  • Presenting substantiation evidence and safety arguments to internal nuclear safety committees.
  • Preparing scopes for independent reviews and facilitating workshops such as hazard studies and design assurance reviews.
  • Creating and updating safety requirements, engineering controls, operational documentation and EIMT schedules to ensure long‑term compliance and reliability.
You will have the following qualifications and experience:
  • Strong background producing safety justification documents for NRP or equivalent nuclear facilities.
  • Knowledge of PWR2/PWR3 safety case principles and an understanding of relevant regulatory expectations.
  • Experience advising stakeholders on safety case development, including maturity assessments and hazard identification activities.
  • Proven ability to shape safety methodologies and arguments for complex, high‑risk engineering projects.
  • Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, with existing NNPPI and CA clearances; Incorporated or Chartered status is advantageous.
  • Ideally you will be a chartered engineer or have an engineering degree.
