Job description
Overview

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Radiotherapy Physics Technologist / Dosimetrist within the Radiotherapy Physics Service in the South West Wales Cancer Centre in Swansea. We reserve the right to appoint at Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change (AFC) pay scheme, or at a lower banding depending on experience and progress en route to acquiring essential criteria i.e. registration with RCT.

The service supports state-of-the-art radiotherapy equipment, including four Elekta linear accelerators (with SGRT and FFF capability), a Philips wide-bore CT-scanner, Pinnacle treatment planning system (utilising image fusion), auto segmentation and adaptive techniques, and a well-developed oncology information management system (MOSAIQ), all deployed in a Citrix environment to enable remote and paperless working across the South-West Wales region. The service supports a flexible approach, including working-from-home, unsociable hours and weekend working.

Main duties
  • Undertake various tasks independently and without supervision within treatment planning and Mould Room areas.
  • Take responsibility for some areas of the service and, with increasing experience, develop more profound and specialised knowledge of a subset of the defined tasks within Radiotherapy Physics Services.
  • Collaborate with technologists, physicists and other planning group members to prepare treatment plans for patients undergoing radiotherapy.
  • Operate computer systems for treatment plans, delineate organs at risk, and perform calculations relating to patient doses.
  • In the Mould Room, have direct contact with patients and work with oncologists and radiographers to produce individualised immobilisation devices.
  • Measure radiation beams from the linear accelerators to verify treatment delivery accuracy.
  • Engage in clinical developments within the department by introducing new techniques and supervising, teaching and training other staff and students.
