Job description
What you will be doing

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team at Galliford Try within our Asset Intelligence Business. Ideally, you will be based in or around the Central London area with the opportunity to travel across Greater London. You will lead the commercial management of M&E projects in Central London, owning cost control, change, and supply-chain performance while partnering closely with engineering/design to deliver safe, compliant, and profitable outcomes.

  • Lead the commercial administration and reporting across the project including procurement, measurement, valuations, change control and final accounts.
  • Prepare, submit and agree client applications; manage subcontract assessments, pay/payless notices and robust change/claims records (CEMAR), in line with NEC requirements.
  • Produce accurate CVRs, cost plans and cashflow forecasts; drive cash optimisation, minimise gross/net WIP, and explain variances period-on-period.
  • Draft and negotiate main-contract/subcontract terms (risk flow-down for M&E packages) and ensure timely, compliant commercial notices (EWN/CE/VAR).
  • Manage Compensation Event quotations and change in a timely manner, collaborating with operations/design to substantiate scope, quantities and design development.
  • Maintain rigorous commercial registers and cost records; interpret internal cost system outputs to forecast liabilities and net positions.
  • Coach and mentor QS/AQS colleagues to build capability and drive consistent process adoption across the team.
  • Champion Galliford Try's "Doing the right thing" values, fostering positive client and supply-chain relationships and safe, sustainable delivery.
About you
  • Proven M&E/MEP QS experience on building services or infrastructure projects, with strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Solid contract knowledge (NEC ECC), commercial notices and entitlement.
  • Highly numerate with excellent cost planning/measurement skills.
  • Advanced Excel and strong grasp of commercial systems (e.g., CEMAR, Oracle) with clear, concise reporting.
  • Stakeholder savvy: able to partner with engineering/design, interrogate M&E deliverables, and translate technical change into commercial outcomes.
  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline; MRICS/working towards (desirable). CSCS (appropriate) required. BPSS and Parliamentary BPSS (desirable) security clearance required.

You will also be able to demonstrate the following key attributes:

  • Desire to understand and promote the Company purpose, vision, values and culture
  • Organised, structured and professional, with a passion for excellence, striving to deliver the best.
  • Flexibility, resilience and the ability to influence and build relationships with key stakeholders. Demonstrating strong ethical standards with openness and honesty.
  • Commitment to the provision of excellent customer service, passionate, committed and enthusiastic in all that you do.
  • A self-starter with a can-do attitude and a desire to pick up new challenges. Dedicated to working together to achieve results.
