Senior Public Involvement Adviser

We are looking for a passionate and committed public involvement and engagement specialist to join our People and communities team. Come and help us ensure that the voices of people with lived experience, their carers, families, and the voluntary and community sectors organisations that support them inform and influence the recommendations NICE makes.

Main duties of the job

The Senior public involvement advisor will join a passionate and experienced team, leading a portfolio of activities to engage and involve people and communities in the development of NICE guidelines, medicines appraisals and healthtech evaluations.

They will be part of the People and communities team's leadership team and deputise for the head of public involvement and engagement. They will represent the team and NICE at internal, national and international levels, demonstrating a high level of credibility and expertise.

The Senior public involvement advisor must build strong working relationships internally and externally, and collaborate effectively, with voluntary and community sector organisations and networks, and other experts in involving and engaging people and communities.

The Senior public involvement advisor will provide oversight and management of involvement and engagement of people and communities across a portfolio of guidance topics and activities. They will manage and lead a team of public involvement advisers and provide expert advice and support to NICE on involvement methodologies and best practice.

The Senior public involvement advisor will play an integral part in leading and delivering programmes of work to support our3-year strategy for involving and engaging people and communities at NICE. They will also play a key role in supporting NICE's broader transformational aims and strategy.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Master's degree or Doctorate (or equivalent qualification), or equivalent level of knowledge acquired through experience and further training/development, ideally in health or social science research and/or health policy work.
Experience
  • Proven operational involvement in the management of complex projects involving professionals and people with lived experience working together
Experience
  • Experience of working with a range of individuals and organisations, including voluntary and community sector organisations, ideally in a healthcare setting
Experience
  • Experience of working directly with people and communities most affected by health inequalities
Knowledge
  • Highly developed knowledge of UK healthcare policy, including involvement and engagement policies, principles, methods and practice, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and relevant practical experience

  • Knowledge of health inequalities and approaches for engaging with communities who are marginalised and overlooked, and an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusivity
