Help us create a better future, quicker

ScottishPower are delighted to bring to market a role for a Senior Procurement Consultant to help us lead the way to net zero. You'll join at a period of exciting growth as we you'll be involved in the procurement and cost and commercial management of contracts to support the expansion of our portfolio of HVDC interlink projects as we head towards our 2030 goals and beyond which will enable electricity, created by new and existing onshore and offshore wind development, to be efficiently moved to nearer to where it is needed by the consumer, to support the modern electrified society.

What you ll be doing

You will join an expanding procurement team working within a cross company, matrix organisation with our partners at National Grid. The procurement team you will join has the significant responsibility for the procurement of approximately £10 billion worth of investment projects across the UK Energy network over the next 5 years in partnership with our colleagues in National Grid. The projects will primarily support the transmission of renewable energy generated offshore onto the UK Grid network, ensuring a more efficient means by which to deliver energy to the consumer at point of consumption, no matter where that may be within the UK.

You will support the procurement requirements for the construction phase of the £4 billion Eastern Green Link 1 project (which was procured by this same team in December 2023) and with electricity demand forecast to double in the next 10 years, your role will also support future project requirements such as Eastern Green Link 4 and new interlink projects on the West Coast of the UK. Leadership of and involvement within these projects represents a fantastic opportunity for the correct candidate to play a part in protecting the UK's energy supply for generations to come.

Day to day with appropriate support, you'll take a lead role in the identification of strategic opportunities to leverage common requirements across projects. You will participate in the definition of proposed strategies and lead in the management of the procurement process through to Contract Award for support contracts for both Eastern Green Link 1 and Eastern Green Link 4. Within this, you will be expected to lead and support the commercial aspects of contract negotiations, managing commercial and contractual activities both pre-contract and where appropriate post contract to ensure delivery of best value whilst meeting Iberdrola Group processes. You will also support the Category Manager in the delivery of the main Converter contracts for all current and future interlink projects.

The role includes significant stakeholder management activity including the management of internal and external relationships, contractor engagement, ongoing gathering of intelligence, benchmarking and negotiation of high value complex contracts and the associated cost and commercial management.

What you ll bring

Ideally, you will have experience in energy procurement and/or construction contracts in the UK. You will be familiar with evaluating supplier bids, cost and commercial contract management and negotiations. You will possess experience of EPC type contracts and be familiar with FIDIC and/or NEC3 or 4 engineering and construction contracts. You will ideally have gained full chartership status with a relevant professional body such as the RICS or CIPS.

Being a confident individual, you will be a pro‑active self‑starter and seek to persuade, challenge, and build credibility with key stakeholders and strive to deliver results to meet deadlines. All of this will be supported by your strong analytical skills, attention to detail, working to timelines and confident in the use of Microsoft Excel to work with formulas and calculations to build cost models to evaluate supplier bids.

Minimum requirements
  • Educated to degree level in relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  • Good understanding of Procurement best practices
  • Experience in end‑to‑end tender process
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong numeracy skills as well as being proficient in MS Excel
