Our Client has a requirement for a Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Glasgow.

Position Overview

The approving authority plays a critical role in ensuring the design integrity and safety justification of defence infrastructure, systems, structures, and components.

Role Summary

As part of a multi–disciplinary engineering team, the Electrical Engineer will support both current operations and future programmes across multiple sites.

You will work alongside Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Building Services, Electrical, and Piping Engineers to develop, assess, and maintain Engineering Design Substantiation for nuclear facilities, ensuring compliance with safety, operational, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Author, develop, assess, maintain, and manage nuclear infrastructure design substantiation documents.
  • Manage and approve design changes and concessions.
  • Present design substantiations to nuclear safety committees.
  • Develop and maintain EIMT schedules, procedures, and results to satisfy safety case requirements.
  • Produce and review Periodic Review of Safety reports.
  • Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) / Independent Peer Review (IPR) scopes of work.
  • Apply theoretical and practical engineering methods to nuclear/high–risk environments.
  • Produce robust technical justifications for electrical design modifications.
  • Review safety case submissions and technical reports from contractors.
  • Check and verify calculations and technical documentation authored by others.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience as an Electrical Engineer working with industrial plant and machinery in HV and LV environments (e.g., pumps, generators, lightning protection, control systems).
  • Knowledge of British and European design standards and practices.
  • Hands–on experience in concept, detailed design, and construction stages for electrical projects (ideally industrial or maritime).
  • Design assessment experience of electrical plant/equipment against hazard resilience.
  • Skilled in authoring technical justifications for electrical modifications in high–hazard industries.
  • Experience contributing to multi–discipline engineering projects.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within a similar nuclear environment.
  • Familiarity with safety case development (HAZID/HAZOP).
  • UK nuclear industry experience in safety–related SSC design and assessment.
  • Understanding of UK and US nuclear regulations, codes, and standards.

Qualifications & Training

Essential:

  • Minimum HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline.
  • Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience.
  • Commitment to complete a Nuclear introductory course within 6 months (for non–nuclear background candidates).

Desirable:

  • Engineering degree.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
