Overview

Working to the requirements of the Children Act 1989, and the Social Services and Wellbeing Act 2014, the Children Looked After Team delivers services to young people throughout the Merthyr Tydfil borough, and further afield when our care experienced young people reside outside of the borough. The team also supports children and their families who are subject to a Special Guardianship Order.

The Children Looked After Team carry out statutory duties for all children subject to section 76 parental agreement, interim or full Care Orders and Special Guardianship Orders. The Local Authority has a duty to ensure that the work and support offered is well directed and supervised in line with our statutory duties. The senior social workers role is essential in supervising and supporting the social workers within the team to ensure that statutory duties are carried out and that children and their families have appropriate planning and support to promote their welfare.

Role

We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Social Worker whose role will be to manage a reduced yet complex caseload, to assist the team manager in developing and supporting the team, including the supervision of a SGO social worker and SGO support worker.

Qualifications

You must possess a professional Social Work qualification, have 3 years post qualifying experience, and be registered as a Social Worker with Social Care Wales.
