Responsibilities
  • Manage, develop and participate in the provision of specialist Homecare Services ensuring that the supply of medicines is cost effective and meets the national homecare governance requirements.
  • Maintain centralised services onto one site, ensuring a constant supply of quality medicines through the Pharmacy and homecare providers to its patients by managing the purchase order, delivery and payment systems.
  • Co‑coordinate the Homecare service and staff specialising in Homecare Services, directing workflow and skill mix and plan and deliver the training of pharmacy staff undertaking NVQ Level 2 and 3 qualifications, including appraising and mentoring.
  • Work within a range of technical pharmacy codes and procedures supporting the Pharmaceutical Service and the Medicines Management agenda in the UHB.
  • To clinically screen and validate homecare prescriptions according to local and national standards, following a period of competency‑based training and assessment.
  • Plan and organise workflow and staff rotas, ensuring optimal skill mix and reallocating work as needed.
  • Centralise services at Royal Glamorgan Hospital, standardising processes and procedures.
  • Make informed decisions on staffing, supply issues, and order quantities using professional judgment.
  • Conduct performance reviews for team members and supervise pharmacy assistants and student technicians.
  • Identify and address staff performance issues; escalation concerns to the Homecare Lead.
  • Participate in recruitment and selection for technicians and assistants.
  • Manage staff sickness and leave requests professionally and sensitively.
  • Handle patient/carer complaints and errors empathetically, escalating when necessary.
  • Check support staff work e.g., requisitions, invoices for accuracy.
  • Write, review, and update SOPs; monitor compliance and quality through KPIs, audits, and surveys.
  • Propose and implement service improvements; report outcomes.
  • Troubleshoot issues with automated dispensing systems (robot), resolving faults safely.
  • Ensure compliance with GPhC code of practice, SOPs, and medicines legislation.
  • Deputise for the Homecare Lead Technician.
