Job description

A fantastic opportunity have arisen in Southend Hospital to join an organisation with a reputation for excellence in the way it cares for the people it serves. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Pharmacy Assistant to join the Pharmacy department! The Pharmacy Technical Services Unit comprises the Aseptic Unit, Pre-pack unit, Radiopharmacy and Cytotoxic unit. Supervised by the senior technician in charge, the post holder will provide support services to the Pharmacy Technical Services department, including the ordering, receipt, storage and supply of Pharmaceuticals and other stocks and the manufacture of aseptic products in both the aseptic and cytotoxic unit. 30 hours a week, Tuesday till Friday. There will be cross site working, early and late finishes, Saturday and bank holiday rota.

Responsibilities
  • You will assist senior staff with essential support duties on the unit.
  • Maintain operator validation and perform dose calculations for chemotherapy drugs and radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Compounding of all aseptic medicines for trust and external customers including Cytotoxics, clinical trials, PCA’s, OPAT, and other aseptically prepared products.
  • Pack, label and inspect over‑labelled / repacked items.
  • Support senior staff with prioritising and allocating work for Chemotherapy, general aseptic, radiopharmaceuticals.
  • Communicate with service users to ensure timely supply of prepared products.
  • You will support Pharmacists and Technicians in providing a high quality pharmaceutical service within the Aseptic production unit, Radiopharmacy and Pre-pack unit, following departmental standard operating procedures.
