Job description
Overview

Astutes Power Team are recruiting for a Senior Outage Planner to support a fleet of Biomass and Energy from Waste Power Stations across the United Kingdom.

Working within the centralised Engineering Team, you’ll be responsible for leading a team of planners and coordinating the development, monitoring and delivery of outage work scopes across the facilities. This includes working closely with the site teams to coordinate outage plans, identifying O&M requirements and managing timely delivery.

Responsibilities and duties
  • Reporting to the O&M Improvement Director, you will be responsible for: Providing guidance and leadership to Outage Planners to ensure strong working relationships across the fleet.
  • Provide strategic input on outage performance, risks, opportunities and emerging trends.
  • Develop and implement outage plans in collaboration with site teams and planners.
  • Oversee the short- and long-term effectiveness, suitability, and performance of site outage plans.
  • Monitor outage progress and provide updates, forecasts and variance analysis to wider business functions.
  • Support real-time outage delivery and make adjustments as required for both scheduled and unscheduled outages.
  • Track and monitor outage performance against key metrics including cost, safety, quality and timeframes.
  • Capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement for future outages.
  • Work with procurement and inventory teams to resolve material constraints.
  • Support post-outage reporting, close-out documentation, and cost reconciliation.
  • Provide planning and execution support for both scheduled and unplanned outages and shutdowns.
Professional qualifications
  • Ideally qualified in a relevant Engineering discipline minimum Level 3
  • Ideally apprentice trained in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • IOSH or NEBOSH in Health and Safety
Personal skills
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar position on a power station or similar plant. This could be Energy from Waste, Coal, CCGT, Biomass, CHP or Nuclear. Similar Heavy Process Industries will be considered (Papermill, Refinery, Petrochemical etc)
  • At least three years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Familiarity with safe systems of work, safety rules and similar safe working practices
  • IT literate – competent with MS Project for Outage / Engineering planning
  • Comfortable travelling to sites and working with site teams and sub-contractors
