By joining our Prisons Health Care Team, you will care for patients in secure environments and contribute to promoting health and well-being. The service operates over a 7-day week to ensure healthcare is managed to high standards. Main duties of the job
  • Oversee the development and implementation of occupational therapy within Feltham A, supported by the wider team and Lead OT assessing growth of OT services at HMYOI Feltham A.
  • Manage a caseload with complex, severe and enduring mental health needs; provide OT-specific interventions and contribute to the Neurodiverse pathway of care.
  • Plan and manage a structured, occupation-focused therapeutic regime within the Enhanced Support Unit, working with young people to facilitate meaningful, skill-based activities.
  • Work with the multidisciplinary team to promote understanding of the OT perspective and its application to the client group.
  • Collaborate with senior staff in the MDT to support service development and contribute to directorate-wide OT development within a Health & Justice network.
  • Provide an OT perspective in professional meetings (e.g., CPA, multi-agency case reviews, risk management meetings) related to patient care and treatment.
  • Educate students on practice placement as part of the AHP fair share agreement.

Education & Qualifications

  • Essential: Degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy; HCPC registered Occupational Therapist.
  • Desirable: Postgraduate training specific to mental health; qualifications/training in specialist skills (e.g., therapeutic/sensory interventions); training in delivering sensory-based interventions and assessments; Practice placement educators' course.

Previous Experience

  • Essential: Post-qualification experience in mental health services; experience using standardised OT assessments; experience in effective partnership working with external providers; experience in completing Risk Assessment Tools.
  • Desirable: Experience in prison/secure settings; delivering interventions to young people in mental health settings; supervising students/junior staff; contributing to care for neurodiverse individuals.
