Main duties of the job
  • Support the protection and promotion of the health and wellbeing of current and prospective employees, and those from contracted and other organisations as per Trust arrangements.
  • In accordance with Trust / Department policy and procedures, to deliver OH clinical activity such as, Pre-placement health clearance activity, and risk management & exposure related advice and intervention. The post -holder may be asked to support the service with management referral consultation and reporting.
  • As an Occupational Health Adviser, provide evidence-based opinion, intervention and guidance to Trust management and partner organisations to support their line and risk management responsibilities, assist in safeguarding against risks arising from work and the working environment and to influence the application of safe and healthy work practices.
  • Take responsibility for specific areas of occupational health service delivery and actively promote the work of the OH service by acting as a key link for managers and HR to named clinical programme groups or external clients.
  • Support the OH Nurses, Clinic Nurses, and Administrative Staff, and others as appropriate.

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training
  • Registered Nurse with at least 5 years' experience in General Nursing
  • Degree or Master Occupational Health Nursing on part 3 of the NMC register
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation (Nebosh Qualification)
  • Demonstrable experience of using specialist knowledge OH underpinned by theory and experience to master's degree level or equivalent experience to evidence analytical thinking
  • Plan and participate in Trust induction programmes
  • Identify areas for development of skills in accordance with the NMC guidelines
  • Maintain a wide knowledge of current occupational health issues promoting the implementation of research-based practice
  • Provide health education and induction programmes as required, and initiating relevant in-service training sessions according to identified needs.
  • Supervise the training of qualified and unqualified staff and assist junior staff to develop clinical skills in accordance with their level of competence
  • Provide education on various aspects of health, safety and welfare to promote good public relationships with outside bodies
  • Assess the occupational health needs of client groups and advise accordingly
