Job description
Senior MRI Radiographer

Department: Imaging

Band 6 £38,682 – £46,580 prorata if part‑time

Hours: 37.5 pw, 10‑month fixed‑term; all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Imaging Department at Milton Keynes University Hospital, where you’ll play a key role in shaping and advancing our MRI services within a dynamic, forward‑thinking team.

We’re seeking an enthusiastic and motivated radiographer with a strong commitment to delivering outstanding patient care and continually developing professional skills. Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team, you’ll gain valuable experience across a broad range of MRI examinations, including neuro, MSK, angiography, and dynamic studies.

Equipment

• Two Siemens 1.5T MRI scanners on‑site
• One GE 1.5T Voyager MRI scanner at our Community Diagnostic Centre

Responsibilities
  • To provide a high quality responsive diagnostic service whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.
  • To be responsible for the safe use of Imaging equipment within the MRI department., running quality assurance and fault‑finding checks on equipment and taking action as appropriate.
  • To perform a range of examinations appropriate to the requirements of the referring clinician and the medical needs of the patient as an independent and autonomous practitioner.
  • To provide clear instructions and information to support and reassure patients and carers, ensuring they comply with all safety standards during their time in the MRI department.
  • To participate in extended working hours including weekend, evening and on‑call duties as required by the service.
  • To assist in training and supervision of less experienced Radiographers and students within MRI.
  • To work within established departmental policies and procedures.
  • To undertake advanced practices such as MRI angiography, IV contrast injections, complex scans such as cancer staging, liver and bowel imaging and caring for sedated patients.
  • To develop and utilise sound skills and knowledge in all aspects of MRI Imaging.
  • To plan and prioritise own workload and assist in the triaging of workflow and patients within the MRI department by collaborating with colleagues to maximise departmental efficiency.
  • To be able to recognise abnormalities and irregularities in images, which can sometimes be subtle and take appropriate actions.
  • Assist in the development of CPD and undertake self‑development to meet current requirements.
  • To assist with clerical tasks and supporting tasks in support of the service.
  • To perform MRI examinations in the best interests of the patient whilst using resources optimally and maintaining a safe environment for patient and public.
  • Following an MRI investigation to ensure that the results are appropriately acted upon and that the patient is aware of the next step in their medical management.
  • To participate in governance activities including departmental audits as required.
