Senior Midwife – Community

Overview

We are recruiting a Senior Midwife to join our Community Midwifery leadership team in Derby and Burton. The role is a 12‑month fixed term contract and offers an opportunity to influence how community midwifery is delivered at UHDB as part of an experienced leadership team.

Main Duties
  • Take responsibility for safe, clinically effective, individualised care for women and birthing people, babies and families within a team.
  • Lead by example, offer expert midwifery clinical advice and manage teams and the homebirth service to deliver high quality, compassionate care.
  • Provide expert clinical and professional midwifery leadership, responsible for women, birthing people, babies, public and staff experience in line with Trust wide policies, procedures and values.
  • Support staff wellbeing, conduct appraisals and manage health and attendance management.
  • Safely allocate and manage resources, including workforce rostering and budget management.
  • Deliver quality improvements in line with our Maternity and Neonatal Improvement Programme and the national maternity agenda.

Qualifications & Experience
  • NMC Registration.
  • Evidence of degree or working toward higher degree or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrable significant post registration experience, with experience within a band 6 post.
  • Evidence of management/leadership skills gained through theoretical knowledge and or experience.
  • Specific knowledge of the clinical area/speciality.
  • Evidence of teaching/nurturing.
Skills & Ability
  • Able to implement and embed change.
  • Takes responsibility and is accountable for all delegated nursing care within the team.
  • Able to assess associated risks and take appropriate action.
  • Driving licence with access to a car.
  • Develops policies/procedures for defined clinical area.
  • Work across division during unit cover and deputising for matron.
