A leading MEPH contractor based near Cirencester, specialising in mechanical, electrical, and HVAC installations across commercial, industrial, and public sector projects. Known for their high standards, technical expertise, and commitment to delivering energy-efficient, sustainable building solutions.

Role Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer will take ownership of the mechanical (HVAC) design aspects of building services projects from concept to completion. You'll work closely with our in-house delivery team and external consultants to ensure systems are designed efficiently, meet client requirements, and comply with relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and specification of HVAC systems including ventilation, heating, cooling, and air conditioning for commercial and public buildings
  • Produce technical schematics, layout drawings, and schedules using AutoCAD and/or Revit
  • Conduct thermal load calculations, duct and pipe sizing, and equipment selection
  • Liaise with architects, consultants, and subcontractors to coordinate design intent and installation practicalities
  • Carry out site surveys and attend design team/client meetings
  • Ensure compliance with current regulations including CIBSE guides, British Standards, and Building Regulations
  • Provide technical support during installation and commissioning phases
Required Skills & Experience
  • HNC/HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical/HVAC design within the building services industry
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC system design principles and low carbon technologies
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and at least one HVAC calculation software (Hevacomp, IES, etc.)
  • Familiarity with UK building regulations and industry best practices
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
Desirable
  • Experience with Revit MEP and BIM coordination
  • Knowledge of LTHW, CHW, VRF/VRV, and natural ventilation systems
  • Experience in delivering designs for sectors such as healthcare, education, or commercial offices
  • Working towards or already achieved chartership (CIBSE or IMechE)
