Senior Management Accountant

The Senior Management Accountant provides management and financial information and support to assigned Directorates, ensuring that their financial requirements are understood and delivered by the finance management team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Finance & Business Planning – Produce summary financial plans that reflect strategic objectives; identify financial risks and develop mitigation plans; lead annual and periodic detailed budget setting processes; provide financial input into business cases.
  • Reporting – Produce accurate and timely monthly finance reports; monitor budget performance and analyse key variances; produce financial forecasts; assist with financial returns and questionnaires.
  • Productivity & Efficiency – Assist in planning and reporting the Cost Improvement Programme (CIP); identify key cost drivers and model activity implications.
  • Engagement – Promote a modern, collaborative approach to engaging clinicians in financial management; work professionally with finance team to deliver process standardisation.
  • Other – Represent the Finance Directorate; undertake ad‑hoc duties as required.
Secondment Flexibility

This permanent role is advertised with the flexibility of a potential secondment opportunity. If you would like to explore this flexibility, discuss with your line manager and raise the opportunity with the recruiting manager. All secondments will require agreement from both host and receiving organisations. Upon successful completion, you may convert the secondment to a substantive appointment.

  • 3 years management accountant experience in an NHS setting.
  • Experience of investigation, analysis and interpretation of large amounts of financial data.
Skills
  • In‑depth knowledge and experience of systems, Excel, budgeting systems, financial ledger systems and reporting software.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Able to assess workload and manage resources to meet overlapping targets and objectives.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Able to work autonomously with the skills to make complex decisions independently.
