Senior Locally Employed Doctor in Microbiology

We are looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team and be a driving force in further developing our infection service. These posts would be well suited to resident doctors looking to deepen their infection and microbiology knowledge.

The Department is currently undertaking an improvement project to create a cohesive infection service across all the hospitals within the Trust, in what will become one of the largest infection departments in the UK. This will incorporate colleagues in infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health, respiratory medicine, genitourinary medicine and infection prevention.

Candidates must be eligible for their own GMC registration: an active licence, ceased licence or pending application with the GMC at the point of application. Candidates who do not fit this criteria will not progress through to the shortlisting stage.

Main Duties of the Job

There are a wealth of advantages to joining our team, not limited to the following:

  • Extensive range of specialties with potential to develop the infection service in areas of special interest
  • Complex and varied case mix (many opportunities for publications/research and continuous professional development)
  • Large laboratory with WASP lab automation and partnered with UKHSA. Continuously looking to implement new molecular technologies
  • Implementation of new laboratory IT system (Beaker) and Electronic patient record system (HIVE) across the trust since September 2022.
  • Strong and regular communication between clinical team and laboratory
  • Great relationships with supportive AMS pharmacy team - weekly complex case MDTs and stewardship ward rounds.

Qualifications and Training
  • Medical Degree
  • At least 3 years equivalent of postgraduate medical training
