Senior Library Assistant – Stratford Library

Newham Libraries is inviting applications for a senior library assistant in Stratford. The position is a 2‑term contract at a fixed rate of £30,288 – £31,611 per annum, ending 31 March 2027.

About the Library Service

The library network across Newham delivers high quality collections and events, with a focus on inclusive, community‑led engagement. Priorities include a relevant book stock, a strong digital lending service and meaningful outreach to families and young people.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist customers with transactions, shelving, layout and basic digital skills sessions.
  • Provide information provision, sign‑posting and run or support events (e.g. Under 5 storytimes).
  • Support outreach activities or resident forums as required.
  • Open and close the building, take bookings and payments, oversee staff activity and conduct cashing/banking functions as a duty manager.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Excellent customer care skills, genuine passion for library services and a love of reading.
  • Experience in a library or similar customer‑focused role, with strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
  • Enjoyment of STEM and digital engagement, and a track record of running engaging activities.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public and in a team environment.
