Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assess costs and risks of international trade operations.
  • Resolve queries related to CDS errors and VAT codes.
  • Ensure compliance of all documentation with HMRC updates.
  • Conduct quarterly internal audits across compliance areas.
  • Prepare departmental performance reports and suggest improvements.
  • Manage trade programs and ensure accurate CDS declarations.
  • Support Customs team manager in compliance audits.

Job Description:

This in-house role with a major brand based in Surrey offers a hybrid working arrangement (three days in the office). You will join an established Customs team and play a key role in ensuring the business complies with all Customs regulations. As the subject matter expert, you will handle import operations and customs compliance related to import controls, HMRC, Border Force, and Defra. Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing costs and risks associated with international trade operations, including tariffs, duties, taxes, and excise costs.
  • Resolving queries related to CDS errors, VAT codes, and duty codes.
  • Ensuring compliance of all documentation with updates from HMRC and Border Force, in systems or manually.
  • Conducting quarterly internal audits across compliance areas such as Import/Export entries, Excise reviews, CDS audits, SCDP audits, and AEO audits.
  • Preparing departmental performance reports and suggesting improvements to enhance profit margins, collaborating with senior management.
  • Managing trade programs, including new or re-authorizations and updates to existing ones.
  • Ensuring Brokers complete accurate and timely CDS declarations for imports/exports.
  • Supporting the Customs team manager in compiling quarterly compliance audits.

Ideal candidates will have advisory experience from a professional services firm or a global in-house customs team, with strong knowledge of international customs regulations, trade agreements, and duty optimization strategies.
