Job description

Senior Environmental Advisor role is to actively support the company in achieving its environmental commitments which include legislative compliance, retaining our ISO14001 certification, minimising environmental risks and promoting best practice. We are looking for someone with strong experience in PFAS, specialist water permit and consent knowledge, and experience in ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme). What will you do?

Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop and deliver audit programmes in collaboration with the Environment Manager, conducting environmental audits across all business units. Measurable against regular progress reports on compliance with applicable environmental legislative and other requirements.
  • Identify and drive improvements to the HSE management system to ensure continued compliance with ISO14001, the Wildlife Trusts Biodiversity Benchmark Award requirements and the Decade of Change.
  • Monitor environmental incidents and participate in investigations. Support Lead Investigators in identifying root causes and developing appropriate learning alerts, measured against metrics and KPIs.
  • Share knowledge with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high environmental performance.
  • Evaluate compliance with applicable environmental legislation and other requirements, communicate potential environmental liabilities and identify opportunities for continual improvement.
  • Develop systems and processes to ensure compliance with UK ETS, environmental permits and consents.
  • Conduct incident investigations, understand root causes and develop corrective and preventative actions.
  • Monitor environmental performance, identify trends to reduce risks and promote sustainability best practice.
  • Liaise with specialist consultants, manage tender submissions and vendor evaluations to ensure a high standard of service.
  • Develop content for HSE training and awareness material, and HSE processes and procedures.
  • Apply technical expertise in waste management (construction experience beneficial), emissions, air quality and contaminated land.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of PFAS, specialist water permit and consent issues, and ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme).
  • In-depth knowledge of compliance with UK ETS, environmental permits, consents and applicable legislation.
  • Experience evaluating compliance with environmental legislation and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Knowledge and experience of ISO14001 environmental management systems.
  • Experience in incident investigation with root cause analysis.
  • Experience in monitoring environmental performance and identifying trends.
  • Experience working with specialist consultants and managing vendor evaluations.
  • Experience developing HSE training and awareness material.
  • Technical experience in waste management, emissions, air quality and contaminated land.
