Job summary

A local government council in Liverpool is seeking a motivated individual for a key role within the Democratic and Member Services team. The successful candidate will manage committee work programmes, produce agendas and minutes, and support governance and policy development. A strong knowledge of local government law, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a politically sensitive environment are essential. The role is full-time with a salarly range of approximately £36,363 - £39,152.

About the Role

This is a key role within the Democratic and Member Services team supporting the Principal Democratic Services Officer in delivering high‑quality committee and democratic services. You will be responsible for managing committee work programmes, producing agendas and minutes, advising Members and officers on governance and constitutional matters and supporting scrutiny and policy development processes.

You will also clerk independent appeals panels, contribute to the modernisation of democratic processes and support the Electoral Services Team during elections and referenda. The role requires a strong understanding of local government law and procedures, excellent organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a politically sensitive environment.

About the Candidate

We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual with a background in local authority committee administration. You will have:

  • A-level standard English and GCSE-level Maths (or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of local government law procedures and democratic processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in drafting minutes reports and formal correspondence
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high‑quality work to tight deadlines
  • Political awareness and the ability to work sensitively with elected Members
