Job description
Overview

At our residential children's home in Eastbourne, the Senior Day Coach role is about being an anchor of experience. The young people here live with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, and severe learning disabilities, with many relying on non-verbal communication methods.

They need highly structured routines, sensory support, and continuous supervision. You'll support the shift leader and be the staff member others look to when behaviours escalate or routines break down. Whether it's supporting personal care, helping a child communicate through Makaton, or responding to self-harm or seizures, you'll model safe, consistent practice.

What You'll Do

Your focus will be to support children directly and mentor junior colleagues:

  • Work closely with young people with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, and communication difficulties.
  • Provide personal care and support daily living routines.
  • Model calm responses to behaviours such as biting, hair pulling, or inappropriate touch.
  • Use PECS, Makaton, and visuals to support non-verbal communication.
  • Share knowledge of sensory regulation and PBS with newer staff.
  • Offer guidance during incidents or complex situations.
  • Drive young people in and out of the community for trips and appointments.
