Job description

Please note, this role is open only to internal staff (including NHSP and Agency staff currently on placement within our organisation) and staff substantively employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts and the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB). Individuals at risk of redundancy will be given priority, provided they meet the essential criteria.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join the Kent Clinical Neuropsychology Service for Stroke in the Thanet area (Margate & Ramsgate).

The position is a community role involving specialist neuropsychological assessment, cognitive rehabilitation interventions, and psychological therapy for stroke survivors, their families and carers. The work will support a multidisciplinary approach within the Community Neurorehabilitation Teams.

The post is based at Gregory House in Canterbury and is co-labelled with other service colleagues. The trust supports hybrid/flexible models of working. Close working with a Principal Clinical Psychologist will provide supervision and informal support. The role suits someone with previous neuropsychological experience, but newly qualified clinicians or those moving from another specialty will also be considered.

Within the Kent Clinical Neuropsychology Service there is a strong rehabilitation focus and therapeutic models such as ACT, CFT, Narrative Therapy and Systemic Family Therapy are valued. The service commits to ongoing training and professional development and links with the Canterbury Christ Church Clinical Psychology training course.

Responsibilities
  • Systematic provision of specialist clinical neuropsychology services to stroke survivors and their families and carers in the Thanet locality.
  • Undertake high quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist neuropsychological interventions, exercising autonomous judgement.
  • Ensure clinical effectiveness of own practice and service delivery by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with the local Community Neurorehabilitation Team.
  • Be regularly responsible for providing training placements for trainee clinical psychologists in clinical neuropsychology.
