A healthcare organization in the UK is seeking a Clinical Leader to enhance patient care through strong clinical governance and proactive leadership. The role involves guiding practice staff on quality and safety, developing clinical strategies, and coaching multidisciplinary teams. The ideal candidate is a registered medical practitioner with a commitment to quality practice, effective relationship building, and experience in quality frameworks. Our innovative model has been designed to:
Allow GPs to spend more time doing the tasks only they can do specific types of patients, specific clinical and non-clinical administration, specific leadership functions, and clinical supervision of ACP Clinical Leads and medics / pharmacists
Improve our ability to segment patient care in a more standardised way, and identify how best to utilise our workforce in individual surgeries and across SPC surgeries
Improve our ability to recruit and retain Salaried GPs in-practice and reduce our use of Locum GPs
Improve our ability to recruit and retain experienced ACP Clinical Leads to support and develop the ACP Clinical Leadership model further, and to clinically supervise and develop ACP and Non-medical prescriber staff
Improve our ability to recruit and retain ACPs and ANPs to sit under the ACP Clinical Leadership model, and be more supported to develop in their ACP and ANP roles and scope of competencies
Future proof the SPC model standardisation of roles, processes and systems, centralisation of roles, resilient workforce, improved stewardship of SPC finances
Ensure that the practice level leadership and/or management functions are covered by a clinician who is best placed to do so.
Provide proactive and visible clinical leadership, supporting and guiding practice staff on quality and safety matters.
Develop and embed robust clinical governance systems, ensuring active participation by all medical staff.
Lead on clinical strategy, improvement planning, and quality assurance across the practice.
Collaborate with Practice Management, PCNs, and SPC leads to drive service improvement and staff development.
Oversee clinical quality and safety, ensuring best practice through NICE implementation, significant event reviews, and compliance with CQC standards.
Jointly act as CQC Registered Manager and Caldicott Guardian for the practice.
Coordinate practice education and supervision, ensuring clinical staff remain up to date with policy and guideline changes.
Provide supervision for GPs and non-medical prescribers in line with SPCs Clinical Leadership Model.
We are a friendly, forward-thinking GP surgery with a supportive multidisciplinary team, including three GPs, an ACP Clinical Lead, ANP, Paramedic Practitioner, Prescribing Lead Pharmacist and Pharmacy Technician, supported by a brilliant nursing and admin team.We use SystmOne, offer 15-minute appointments, and provide two protected GP Clinical Lead admin sessions per week to support leadership, quality improvement and mentoring (prorata).The practice is currently going through an exciting period of transition, with plans to implement total triage to improve patient access and streamline workflows. a)Clinical Leadership
Provide visible clinical leadership
Be a point of contact for practice staff who need support andguidance over quality and safety concerns. This may include a formal role insome staff members appraisals in some instances.
Develop clinical governance strategies, systems and processesand ensure the activeparticipation by all medical staff.
Works with practice management to lead the wider practiceteam including regular
Attendance at practice meetings
Support career development of clinical staff
Build relationships with SPC Safeguarding Lead, SPC EducationLead, Senior GP lead and ACP clinical leads from other SPC Practices and sharelearning and good practice
Play a key role in service improvement planning for thefuture, bringing the quality and safety concerns to the fore and ensuring theseare balanced with organisational and financial concerns.
Develop and maintain active working relationships with PCNs
Sign off any additional policies/procedures as required
Be responsible for leading on the clinical components ofQOF/LCS and IIF
Attend quality assurance meeting and education meetings withother senior clinical lead GPs and with Medical Director for quality assurancepurposes and agree to work in line with SPC Clinical Governance structure
To work collaboratively with practice management operationalteam and ACP clinical lead as practice executive team
b)Clinical Quality/Safety
Be responsible for taking an overview of the clinicalfunctions of [insert name of the practice] in terms of service quality andsafety.
Ensure that the systems exist to embed best clinical practiceinto the service (e.g. implementation of NICE guidance, record keeping etc)
Take the overall lead for review of clinical aspects ofSignificant Event reviews and complaints, ensuring that learning points arecaptured, documented, actioned and embedded into practice
Be the joint CQC registered manager with the Practice Manager
Be responsible for leading on the clinical components of CQCreadiness
Ensure that the systems exist to embed patient safety acrossthe service (e.g., record keeping, national and local safety alerts)
Take the overall lead for arranging practice educationmeetings and ensuring that clinical staff are made aware of changes to clinicalguidelines and policy
Be the Caldicott Guardian for [insert name of the practice]
Be the lead clinician for ensuring that all areas of clinicalleadership (see SPC Clinical Leadership Model) are covered within the practice
c)Supervision
You will be responsible for delivering peer-based supportacross the practice team and be responsible for arranging the group supervisionof practice based non-medical prescribers alongside the ACP Clinical Lead
Provide supervision in line with SPC Clinical Leadershipmodel
