A leading healthcare provider in Greater London is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow Myoma to develop gynaecology clinical and surgical skills. Senior Clinical Fellow Myoma

This fellowship post is an excellent training opportunity for any senior trainee in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within the UK, EEA or from overseas who wishes to develop their benign gynaecology clinical/surgical skills.

The post is ideally suited to any of the following:

  • Post CCT obstetrics and gynaecology trainee who wants to develop clinical and surgical skills prior to applying for a consultant post.
  • Any Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainee at ST6‑7 or equivalent level of training who wishes to complete a Special Interest Training Module (SITM) in benign gynaecology.
  • Any overseas Doctor within or outside the EEA wishing to pursue further specialist training in benign gynaecology. The Doctor must be eligible to work within the UK and must have completed training in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology equivalent to ST 6‑7 level or above. The Doctor must hold the MRCOG or equivalent qualification.

Job duration: Applications are invited for a Myoma fellowship post for the duration of one year.

Main duties of the job

This post will be based in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, London. The successful candidate will be expected to work with professional colleagues and local managers in the efficient running of the Service. He/she will be expected to participate in the Trust's system of governance and audit, and maintain their CME/CPD. He/she will also have a commitment to participate in the Trust's professional development activities. The appointee will be expected to observe the Trust's agreed policies and procedures, drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters, and to follow the standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust.

The post-holder will also participate in the Acute Gynaecology Unit (AGU) rota. This is an 8‑week rolling rota with a:

  • One weekend on call: 5‑9pm Friday, 9am‑9pm Saturday & Sunday.
  • Four weekday evening on call: 5‑9pm, the day can differ per week.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate may participate in the Obstetrics Department with regular fixed sessions and on call commitments on Labour Ward and as Senior Registrar in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Fetal ECG (STAN) and advanced CTG training/updates will be provided at SGH. Relevant competencies will be assessed/reviewed before the trainee undertakes independent on call and following a comprehensive induction process. Those fellows/trainees who have not worked at SGH before will be supported at the outset of their fellowship with regard to obstetric on call. Initially they will shadow another senior trainee/resident consultant on call for the labour ward until the clinical obstetric lead is satisfied and the trainee is satisfied that they are able to safely and confidently undertake senior on call for Obstetrics. There are weekly CTG and peri‑natal meetings that the fellow will be encouraged to attend.

Educational/Management/IT courses are available to employees through the SGH Trust.

  • Able to deal with basic management of gynaecological emergencies.
  • Able to manage a high risk delivery suite
  • Experience in performing transvaginal ultrasound and hysteroscopy
  • Previous research experience and evidence of publications
Knowledge
  • Broad understanding of gynaecology
  • Understands principles of research, audit and quality improvement
  • An understanding of the importance of patient safety
  • Evidence of completed audit and/or quality improvement projects
  • Evidence of involvement in morbidity and mortality meetings and or risk management
Other
  • Able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. Able to cooperate with colleagues on research projects.
  • Flexible in dealing with workload in the department and able to work under pressure
  • Punctual and able to organise own time and learning.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
