Overview

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust invites applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery. Closing date: 21 September 2025. Nodal Point 4/5 dependant upon experience. Full-time - 40 hours per week. Fixed term - 7 months. Start date - 5 January 2026.

The Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Department at the Evelina London Children's Hospital offers a tertiary Children's Orthopaedic Service for South London and associated counties. The hospital provides paediatric trauma, a neonatal DDH screening service and a Ponseti clinic. The fellowship has Royal College and PMETB training approval and covers specialist tertiary services including hip problems in teenagers, paediatric knee injuries, limb deformity, skeletal dysplasia, spina bifida and an extensive neurodisability service with gait laboratory support.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will, under the supervision of relevant consultants, provide orthopaedic service to the Guy\'s & St Thomas\' Hospital Trust. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing skills in the assessment and management of orthopaedic patients in acute and elective children\'s services.
  • Enhancing practical skills in children\'s orthopaedic surgery.
  • Gaining understanding of 3-dimensional gait analysis and its contributions to clinical decision making, prognosis and research.
  • Undertaking theatre lists and outpatient clinics with or without supervision.
  • Gaining understanding and appreciation of contributions from other disciplines in a multidisciplinary setting sensitive to patient and family needs.

Job responsibilities

You will join a team of 5 Consultants, 2 Specialist Registrars and 3 specialist orthopaedic nurses and will be expected to provide an elective orthopaedic and trauma service in conjunction with colleagues. You will participate in clinical and service activities to ensure high standards of patient care, contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, and support service development. The Department is keen to help the post holder develop their clinical interests.

This is a non-on-call post but you will liaise with the trauma team and coordinate cover for internal and regional referrals during the week (08:00–17:00). The fellowship is a 7 month appointment.

It is the local hospital for many children in South London and attracts Royal College and PMETB training approval for fellowships such as this.   • Gavin Spence – Orthopaedic Surgeon, Lead for Limb Reconstruction

The successful candidate will report to Mr Michail Kokkinakis.

Qualifications and Training
