Job description
Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic candidate to join our Paediatric Medical Staffing team as a Senior Clinical Fellow - Babies, Children’s, & Young People. The role is available for a fixed term posting, with 1 position available as maternity leave cover to commence from January 2026. The post attracts a rota supplement of 50% of basic salary for all out of hours working, and you will be working 1:3 weekends with less than 48 hours per week on average. The role includes time for other developmental activities such as quality improvement projects, audits, personal research, and at least three hours of protected educational sessions per week. Although not officially recognised training posts, these roles provide the same training opportunities, study leave entitlements, and supervision as training staff, and the Trust has a strong track record of staff from these posts progressing onto National Training Programmes.

We also work closely with the community teams at St Michael's and St Anne's Hospital. The department operates on a split rota with a separate team of registrars and trainees on the neonatal and paediatric units.

Responsibilities
  • Join the Paediatric Medical Staffing team as a Senior Clinical Fellow and contribute to care across the Rainbow Ward (16 beds) for children aged 0-16, including management of conditions such as diabetes, haematology, gastroenterology, asthma and allergy.
  • Support inpatient and early admission processes, with one cubicle kept available to accommodate oncology patients requiring timely admission.
  • Contribute to the Paediatric Assessment Unit (11 bedded, attached to Paediatric Emergency Department) which provides 24-hour assessment and treatment for urgent care and beds up to 6 inpatients as required, including fast track reviews for Oncology and Haematology patients.
  • Collaborate with neonatal and wider maternity services, including the 24-bed Neonatal Unit and related neonatal units within the London Neonatal Network, to provide specialist neonatal care including surgery.
  • Engage in developmental activities, quality improvement projects, audits, personal research, and mandatory protected educational sessions.
  • Participate in the debriefing, supervision and training processes consistent with training posts, with opportunities for study leave and progression to National Training Programmes where applicable.
Training, Collaboration and Unit Details
  • We work closely with the community teams at St Michael's and St Anne's Hospitals and operate within the maternity building environment, including postnatal care.
  • The department includes a neonatal unit and collaborates with maternity birthing centers, labour wards and other neonatal units within the London Neonatal Network for specialist care.
