Job description
Senior Civil / Principal Civil Engineer
Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior / Principal Civil Engineer to join an established Civil & Structural Engineering consultancy based in Lisburn. This is a key technical and leadership role, supporting the design and delivery of projects across a range of public and private sector developments. The successful candidate will lead civil engineering design from concept through to construction, take responsibility for technical quality and project delivery, and support the development of junior engineers. Projects typically range from £1m to £20m, with larger schemes up to £40m. You will be delivering work across commercial, education, healthcare, community, sports and leisure sectors. You will join a team of approximately 20 engineers, the majority of whom are Chartered, providing strong technical support, mentorship and guidance for candidates working towards Chartership with direct management from an ICE mentor. The role offers hybrid flexible opportunity with the opportunity to work from home.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support and lead civil engineering design and delivery for projects typically ranging from one million to twenty million pounds with occasional larger developments up to approximately forty million
  • Manage full project lifecycle including planning design execution quality assurance budget and timeframe oversight
  • Select civil engineering materials and systems considering strength durability cost effectiveness and buildability
  • Produce detailed civil designs including calculations specifications in line with relevant codes and standards
  • Provide technical oversight during construction including carrying out site inspections and ensuring compliance with design intent
  • Prepare reports summarising site inspection findings design changes and recommendations
  • Collaborate closely with architects engineers contractors and wider stakeholders to ensure coordinated project delivery
  • Mentor junior staff and support a culture of quality and efficient technical practice
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Preferrable but not essential - Chartered Engineer status for example MICE or equivalent
  • Minimum five years' experience in civil engineering
  • Proven track record delivering smaller and larger projects across sectors
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, experience in use of Causeway Flow, PSD / Civils 3D
  • Strong knowledge of statutory approval processes
  • Excellent problem solving ability particularly during design and construction stages
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Experience working on projects in the Republic of Ireland would be beneficial
