Job description

This role is for the position of a senior cardiac physiologist. We are looking for an independent and experienced multidisciplinary physiologist who will be leading a sub-team of physiologists in running a busy non-invasive cardiac investigation service within the trust.

Main duties of the job
  • Accountable to Principle Cardiac Physiologist Manager

2. To Develop advance diagnostic skills in order to provide a comprehensive invasive and non-invasive cardiac investigation services within the Trust and to the local community.

  • To contribute to the delivery of a safe, high quality cardiac investigation service that is responsive to both patient and clinicians needs.
  • To ensure the successful implementation and roll out of any service improvements or new innovations that will improve the quality and safety of the service.

5. To independently analyse 24 hour tape ECGs. To extend professional training by completing BSE/HRUK for the proficiency of Echocardiography and complex pacemakers.

6. Attained competency in pacemaker follow-ups and implants. To perform cardiac investigation on wards especially those with high dependency patients and the critically

Job responsibilities

1) To work towards performing and reporting independent Echocardiograms, maintaining high professional standards of technical competence and ensuring standards of essence of care at all times or to be working towards BSE accreditation.

2) To provide independent pacemaker implants and follow up clinic procedures for basic and complex generator

3) To be actively performing ECG, Exercise stress testing and reporting.

4) To obtain and sustain independency in pacemaker clinics and implants.

5) To independently provide stress exercise test service when required.

6) To ensure criteria for procedure is correct.

7) Support junior staff offering advice and guidance as required

8) To provide independent 24 hour tape analysis.

9) To take responsibility for the care of the patient whilst undertaking the procedure.

10) This includes manual handling.

11) To ensure patient confidentiality is observed at all times and observe the requirements of the data protection act and freedom of information act.

12) To be able to provide flexible working hours.

13) To observe all local rules and the Trusts employment policies and procedures.

15) To assess and adapt technique according to patients condition.( eg portable, patients ability to co-operate.

16) To assist in providing training programmes and teaching skills for junior physiologists.

17) To attend compulsory staff training courses

18) To provide assistance and be involved in departmental projects and audits

19) To be actively involved in departmental quality groups and pro-active in the sharing of good practice.

20) To take every opportunity to gain knowledge to achieve competency in an area of speciality within the Cardiology department.

21) To work in accordance with standards set by the Society for Cardiological Sciences and Technology (SCST) and the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists (RCCP)

22) To support departmental research as and when required. To provide autonomy in specialised diagnostic services.

23) Immediate Life Support trained, with regular up stress echo studies.

24) 24 hour ECG tape preparation and analysis as when required

25) To attend Mandatory sessions(, internal or external) and courses related to development

Work force

1) To manage own work, staff, departmental services and patient care and develop autonomous skills, liaising with clinicians and directorate managers if required.

2) To attend any relevant study days, in-house lectures, training afternoons and quality group meetings.

4) To offer advice and guidance to patients, carers and other health professionals on cardiology procedures of patients conditions.

5) To inform and promote guidelines and departmental policies to other healthcare professionals

6) To obtain informed consent from patients prior to undertaking procedures as appropriate to individual circumstances

7) To ensure accurate recording on Current EPR systems and examination details.

8) To promote good relations with other directorates and hospitals

9) To provide independent ECG, Exercise ECG, 24 hour analysis diagnostic results and updated guidelines for all inpatients, outpatients, open access services for the community and local and specific population.

10) To successfully achieve and uphold up to date certificates for skills and competencies, maintaining numbers as part of quality controls

To Instruct patients and to get consent. Provide echo/ecg/BP monitoring services within the study.

To communicate with professional responsibility, to patients at all times.To adhere to patients confidentiality and patients dignity.To communicate to all medical personnel regarding generated interpretations results from cardiac studies.

To provide technical advice in advance diagnostic modalities..To communicate with all Trusts sections, regarding all aspects of departmental needs.

General

1. To ensure that a safe and clean environment is maintained at all times in accordance with the Trust and Safety, Clinical Risk and infection Control policies.

2. To be responsible for all cardiac service equipments, such as defib, echo machine etc.To have responsibilities for the Health, Safety and Welfare of self and others and to comply at all times with the Health and Safety Regulations.

3. To ensure patient and health record confidentiality at all times and to comply with the Data Protection Act requirements.

5. To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of this position and grade

8 This role is clinical, and educator and deputy managerial. The skills required for this post will be to provide high standard applications to both disciplines, efficiently and effectively. Depending on the capacity and demand of the department, both skills are equally important and will need to be utilised for the benefit of the patients and the Trust managers.Any other appropriate duties in consultation with post holder under the direction of senior management .
