Qualifications
Essential criteria
  • BSc. (Hons.) Biomedical Science or equivalent
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Post Graduate Qualification MSc, FIBMS or equivalent or can demonstrate appropriate level of experience and knowledge in Biochemistry.
Desirable criteria
  • Managerial or Leadership Qualification
  • Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) Specialist Diploma in Biochemistry or equivalent
Personal Qualities
Essential criteria
  • Able to work individually and as part of a team, with the ability to plan, supervise and organise basic grade, trainee BMS and support grade staff in their day to day work
  • Able to utilise initiative to solve problems and develop the service
  • Prepared to work flexibly, including participation in a shift pattern which includes early, late, weekend, and Bank Holiday shifts and other out of hours rotas as required.
  • Ability and willingness to fulfil the travel requirements of the post if relevant - primary place of work as per JD but on rare occasion may reasonably be asked to work at another site where the Trust has responsibility for Pathology services.
Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in a Biochemistry Medical Laboratory
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, face to face, by phone and in writing with all levels of staff
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of Operational Service change / Project Delivery linked to IT / Automation / New Assay Developments
  • IT skills / Ability to work IT problems with support from Pathology IT
