Job description
Overview

Senior / Associate Town Planner — Major London Projects

Join a top-tier, independent planning consultancy working on some of the most significant and complex schemes in and around London — from city-shaping regeneration and tall buildings to large, infrastructure-led projects that knit places together. With a deep pipeline and a long-standing client base, you’ll spend your time doing what you do best: planning strategy, applications, and negotiations — not chasing work.

Why this role

  • Do career-defining work: High-profile, complex London schemes, including infrastructure-linked regeneration and masterplans.
  • Focus on the craft: Minimal business development; the project pipeline and client relationships are already in place.
  • Serious influence: Work directly with leading project teams, GLA/boroughs, heritage bodies, and key stakeholders.
  • Support & scale: Join a sizeable London-centric team with the resources to deliver at pace.

What you’ll do

  • Lead/manage major applications (pre-app to decision), conditions/obligations, and reserved matters.
  • Shape planning strategy, policy positioning, and stakeholder engagement (GLA stages, borough committees, statutory consultees).
  • Coordinate EIA scoping/screening, technical inputs, and design development.
  • Prepare robust submissions: Planning Statements, SoCGs, appeal material (written reps/hearings/inquiries).
  • Advise on CIL/S106 heads of terms, viability interfaces, and delivery strategies.
  • Mentor juniors; oversee quality, programme, and risk on multiple live projects.

What you’ll bring

  • MRTPI (or close to achieving) and 4–10+ years’ experience (Senior through Associate).
  • Strong London planning experience across complex urban sites (mixed-use, tall buildings, regeneration; infrastructure interfaces a plus).
  • Proven track record negotiating with LPAs, GLA, Historic England and other statutory bodies.
  • Excellent written work (concise, evidence-led) and confident presentation at public forums.
  • Commercially aware, delivery-focused, and calm under pressure.

Rewards

  • Competitive salary + bonus and comprehensive benefits.
  • Clear progression pathway (Senior → Associate → beyond).
  • Exposure to flagship London projects and blue-chip clients.
  • Collaborative culture with best-in-class peers and mentors.
