SEND Tutor - Alternative Provision (Medway Local Authority Partner)

Medway | In-Person | 1:1 Tuition | Flexible Hours | £25-£32 per hour

Make a Real Difference Where It Matters Most

The CatchUp Academy is an Approved Alternative Provision and Specialist Tuition Partner working directly with Local Authorities to support children and young people who are out of school or struggling to engage in mainstream education.

Due to high and consistent referral demand, we are now recruiting SEND / SEMH Tutors to deliver 1:1, in-person tuition across Medway and surrounding areas.

This is not a classroom role - it's about re‑engagement, confidence‑building, and helping young people find their way back into learning.

About the Learners You'll Support

The children and young people you work with may be out of school due to:

  • Special Educational Needs (ASD, ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, trauma)
  • Mental health challenges or school refusal
  • Behavioural or emotional regulation difficulties
  • Medical needs or disrupted education
  • Awaiting a suitable school or specialist placement

Many have had negative experiences of education - your role is to restore trust, routine and belief.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Deliver 1:1 in-person tuition (Primary, KS3 or KS4)
  • Teach English, Maths and/or Science, adapted to ability level
  • Work in the home, school, or community setting
  • Use flexible, creative and trauma‑informed approaches
  • Support confidence, engagement and emotional regulation
  • Build positive, consistent relationships with CYP
  • Liaise with parents, schools and Local Authority professionals
  • Record clear session notes and progress updates
Hours & Flexibility
  • 5-30 hours per week available
  • Typical sessions during school hours (9am‑3pm)
  • No evenings or weekends
  • Take on as little or as much work as suits your circumstances
  • Ideal for tutors, teachers, SEND practitioners or professionals seeking flexibility
Who We're Looking For

We welcome applications from a wide range of education professionals, including:

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people (education, SEND, SEMH, youth work or care)
  • Confidence delivering 1:1 support
  • Calm, patient and relationship‑led approach
  • Ability to work independently
  • Willingness to travel locally

Desirable (but not essential):

  • QTS / QTLS or teaching qualification
  • Experience in SEND, SEMH, Alternative Provision or EOTAS
  • Understanding of trauma‑informed or child‑centred practice
  • Team Teach or behaviour support training
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply)
Why Work With The CatchUp Academy?

  • ✅ Flexible workload - scale up or down anytime
  • ✅ Purpose‑led work - change lives, not just outcomes
  • ✅ Supportive matching process - students aligned to your strengths
  • ✅ Long‑term opportunities - not short‑term agency cover

This is a role where your presence alone can be transformational.
