Job summary

Job description

SEN Teaching Assistant – Level 2

Location: Oldham
Start Date: January 2026
Pay: £90.00 to £100.00 (PAYE, Experiance Dependant)

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant (Level 2) to work in schools across Oldham, supporting children with Special Educational Needs from January 2026. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a real difference in children’s lives and supporting their academic, social, and emotional development within a school setting.

Responsibilities
  • Support pupils with a range of special educational needs, both 1:1 and in small groups
  • Help remove barriers to learning using tailored strategies and interventions
  • Assist with the development and delivery of scaffolded learning resources
  • Promote positive behaviour and inclusion within the classroom
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents, and carers to support pupil progress
Essential Requirements
  • A passion and commitment to working with children with Special Educational Needs
  • A strong understanding of barriers to learning faced by pupils with SEN and the ability to apply effective support strategies
  • Experience developing learning resources that scaffold and support learning
  • Awareness of child development and understanding of how children learn
  • Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age range
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise sensitively and effectively with parents and carers
  • NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification or relevant experience
  • Literacy and Numeracy skills equivalent to Level 1 of the National Qualification & Credit Framework
  • Completion of the Department for Education Teaching Assistant Induction Programme (or willingness to complete within the first term)
