SEMH Teaching Assistant Full-time, long-term temporary role starting as soon as possible

This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist secondary setting where pupils with Autism, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), SEMH needs, and complex needs are supported in a structured and nurturing environment. Staff work collaboratively to create a calm and inclusive atmosphere that promotes emotional well‑being and academic progress. Leaders are committed to ensuring pupils receive personalised support and access to a curriculum that enables them to thrive both socially and academically.

Duties as SEMH Teaching Assistant
  • Provide one‑to‑one and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
  • Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and behaviour strategies
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional resilience through consistent approaches
  • Adapt resources and strategies to meet individual learning needs
  • Support pupils in developing social and communication skills
  • Maintain accurate records and liaise with SENCO and teaching staff
  • Uphold safeguarding standards and ensure the welfare of all pupils
Ideal SEMH Teaching Assistant
  • Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs in a school setting
  • Strong understanding of strategies for managing behaviour and promoting engagement
  • Ability to build positive relationships and encourage independence
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Patience, resilience, and a proactive approach to problem‑solving
