I am working with a diverse and vibrant school located in Wiltshire. Alongside a rigorous and challenging academic curriculum, pupils are enriched by a broad range of sport, art and creative opportunities. This school has an exciting opportunity for a SEMH Mentor to join their team on a permanent basis starting September.

You will play a crucial role in providing support of the highest quality to learners whose SEMH needs present as a barrier to accessing and engaging with mainstream education and need a specialist educational and therapeutic environment, ensuring that learners are prepared for adulthood so they can live healthily, independently, and successfully transition into employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting emotional and mental health needs building trusting and supportive relationships in line with the schools ethos
  • Providing a calm and consistent presence to children, encouraging self esteem and resilience.
  • Adapt classroom material to meet the individual needs of each child working to maintain classroom engagement.
  • Communicate with teachers, SENCOs and parents about the well being and performance of children.
  • Understand and follow safeguarding policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications for the role.
  • Experience working with children, especially those with SEHM needs.
  • Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy and emotional resilience.
  • A good knowledge of SEND and SEMH strategies and techniques.
