SEMH English Teacher

Location: Wigan

Salary: £150 - £210 per day (dependent on experience)

Contract Type: Full-time, Long-Term

Are you a passionate English Teacher with experience supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? Are you committed to making a real difference in the lives of students who need additional support to thrive?

TeacherActive is proud to be working in partnership with a specialist secondary provision based in Wigan. This nurturing and inclusive setting provides tailored education for students aged 11–16 who have SEMH needs and require support with managing challenging behaviours. The school promotes a trauma‑informed approach, helping students to re‑engage with learning in a safe and structured environment.

Responsibilities
  • Planning and delivering engaging English lessons to small groups of students with SEMH needs
  • Adapting teaching strategies to meet individual learning and emotional needs
  • Managing behaviour in a consistent, calm, and supportive manner
  • Working collaboratively with support staff, parents/carers, and external professionals
  • Encouraging student progress in both academic and personal development
Qualifications
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or relevant teaching qualification
  • Experience working with young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
  • A strong understanding of trauma‑informed and inclusive teaching practices
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students
