A Band 3 SDEC Technician supports patient assessment by taking routine clinical observations and promptly reporting any abnormalities. They help manage patient flow through the unit to enable timely assessments and same-day discharges. Their clinical tasks include performing ECGs, urinalysis, blood glucose checks, assisting with examinations or minor procedures, and preparing clinical areas and equipment. They provide essential patient care, such as helping with mobility, toileting, nutrition, and overall comfort. The role also includes accurate documentation, supporting admissions and test bookings, arranging transport, and sharing information with the wider team. They maintain infection control standards by ensuring cleanliness and adhering to PPE and safety procedures. Effective communication and teamwork are key, acting as a contact point for patients, families, and staff while coordinating with nursing, medical, and diagnostic teams.
The SDEC team is a very friendly and dynamic multi-disciplinary team. Great care can change everything. Like you, at the Gloucestershire Hospital NHS Trust we want to deliver truly brilliant, integrated care. And just like you, we are ambitious about what we do. We are continually striving to improve patients experience and outcomes.
To do this we have developed an innovative Trustwide Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Service both in Gloucester and Cheltenham Hospitals based on national best-practice guidelines. The aim is to provide increased health outcomes for patients, redesigning the emergency care model so that care can be provided on the same day. Patients admitted through this pathway are seen diagnosed, treated and discharged on the same day, leaving admission to a hospital bed reserved only for very sick patients.
The role involves supporting medical and nursing staff by performing delegated clinical tasks, such as routine patient observations, ECGs, blood glucose monitoring, and daily safety checks on emergency equipment. It includes assisting with patient admissions, treatment, discharge documentation, and escorting patients to tests or other departments when required. The position requires delivering safe, effective care in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating reliability, adaptability, teamwork, resilience, enthusiasm, and self-awareness.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
