Job summary

Days and Hours of Work:
Monday - Friday, 09:00-17:00
Flexi time is applicable, and starting and finishing times are flexible.

Are you an IT professional with experience in a support environment, looking to join a friendly and collaborative team which delivers a full range of ICT support services? We have an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to provide essential technical support to both school and corporate users across East Lothian.

About the Role:

As an ICT Officer, you’ll be a key point of contact for staff in schools and council offices, delivering first-line technical support primarily from our Service Desk at John Muir House. You’ll handle support queries from a variety of sources, including the telephone, log and triage incidents, and assist with technology rollouts and projects. During school holidays, you’ll work alongside colleagues in schools, supporting hardware and software upgrades and refreshes, ensuring systems are ready for term.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide first-line IT support to school and corporate staff, mainly from our central Service Desk.
  • Support the configuration, deployment, and management of mobile devices (tablets, Google Chrome devices, smartphones) using our management tools.
  • Maintain accurate records of IT assets and update management systems.
  • Support technology refreshes and upgrades, both in the office and on‑site in schools during holidays.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and excellent customer care.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Calm, professional approach under pressure, with excellent problem‑solving and people skills.
  • Experience supporting Microsoft Windows and Google Chrome devices in an educational environment is highly desirable; experience in a corporate setting is also highly valuable.
  • Knowledge of mobile device management systems and ITIL processes is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills.
  • HNC/SVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • A Disclosure Scotland check will be required (initiated at preferred candidate stage).
  • A current driving licence.

Job Details

To deliver high quality IT technical support in Schools, in accordance with Council policies, standards and procedures with a commitment to achieve best value. A key focus of this particular post is to configure, deploy and manage mobile devises using the Council’s mobile device management tools.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Educated to HNC or SVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

Driving Licence
As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.*
