Job description
Special Needs Teacher (Bath, Somerset)

We are seeking a compassionate and driven Special Needs Teacher to join our dynamic team at a well-respected educational institution in Bath, Somerset. The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching and a commitment to providing a tailored and supportive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs.

Pay rates will range from £160 upwards per day.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver individualized lessons and activities that cater to the specific educational requirements of students with special needs.
  • Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that recognizes each student's abilities and potential.
  • Utilise various teaching methods and resources, including assistive technology, to engage and inspire students.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, adjust teaching strategies as necessary, and provide feedback to students, parents, and other professionals involved in the student's education plan.
  • Develop and implement Individualised Education Programs (IEP) in collaboration with colleagues, parents, and other relevant professionals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students' progress, behaviour, and educational goals.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in special needs education.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, support staff, and external agencies to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to student learning and well‑being.
  • Engage in effective communication with parents and guardians to involve them in their child's educational journey and provide regular updates on progress.
Requirements
  • A recognised teaching qualification in Special Needs Education or a related field.
  • Experience in teaching students with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Strong understanding of the UK curriculum and effective teaching methodologies for special needs education.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to create and adapt teaching materials and provide bespoke learning experiences.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate and encourage students with diverse learning profiles.
  • First aid certification and knowledge of safeguarding practices are preferred.
  • An enhanced DBS check will be required for the successful candidate.
