Job summary

A local community school in Shrewsbury is seeking volunteer governors to make a positive difference to local children. Responsibilities include setting strategic direction, holding leaders accountable, and overseeing financial management. This is a voluntary role, and no prior education experience is necessary. Overview

Make a positive difference to local children. We’re looking for community-minded volunteers to join our Governing Body and help us continue to thrive.

What governors do
  • Set strategic direction: champion our vision, values and ethos; agree priorities for school improvement.
  • Hold leaders to account: ask thoughtful questions about teaching, learning, achievement, behaviour and safety.
  • Oversee finances: ensure our budget is well managed and resources match pupils’ needs.
You don’t need to be an education expert

We welcome people from all backgrounds who have:

  • an interest in local education and pupils’ outcomes
  • an open, enquiring mind and the confidence to ask constructive questions
  • the ability to work well with others and make balanced decisions
  • some time to attend meetings each term and visit school occasionally

We’re especially keen to hear from people with experience in finance, HR, safeguarding/SEND, legal, estates, IT/data, or marketing/communications, but this is not essential.

This is a voluntary role. All governors complete statutory safeguarding (DBS) checks. You do not need to be a parent.
