School Business Manager
Grade 10 • £38,220 – £41,771 pro rata
Part time, 20 hours per week term time only + 3 weeks
Permanent

Overview

The Governors of this popular primary school seek to appoint a dedicated, efficient and experienced School Business Manager who is wholly committed to working as part of our dedicated team.

The working pattern is Monday – Friday, 8.30 a.m. – 12.30 p.m., with an additional 3 weeks across identified school holidays.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in the following areas.

Financial Management
  • Responsibility, in collaboration with the Head Teacher and governors, for the school’s finances.
  • Effectively manage the school’s financial systems and procedures including the School Financial Value Standard.
  • Ensure all financial procedures are carried out effectively and accurately, meeting required deadlines.
  • Effectively and routinely access funding for our school so that children can benefit from the opportunities that this funding brings.
Premises Management
  • Effectively liaise and communicate with the school’s Site Manager, as their designated Line Manager, to ensure premises meet legal requirements and are in a good state of repair.
  • Communicate with service contractors and personnel to maintain premises in a good state of repair and in compliance with legal requirements.
Health and Safety
  • Responsible for Health and Safety within the school and ensure documentation is updated regularly, including staff training, risk assessments, policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with health and safety personnel to ensure procedures meet legal requirements and regulations.
Data Protection
  • Undertake the role of Data Protection Officer to ensure the school is compliant with GDPR.
  • Maintain current knowledge of GDPR regulations.
Business Administration
  • Effectively manage the Single Central Record, ensuring it is updated regularly.
  • Complete and submit school Census returns efficiently.
  • Maintain and update the school website in line with statutory requirements.
Governance
  • Attend and report to Governing Body meetings upon request.
  • Attend and guide Finance and Premises meetings.
  • Prepare relevant information for meetings.
  • Ensure regular website updates including the structure of the Governing Body and any committees, and the names and roles of governors.
Promotion and Marketing
  • Promote an image of the school in accordance with our aims.
  • Responsible for the school’s website as a marketing tool and to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Manage and regularly monitor website content.
  • Maintain a strategic overview of the school’s Facebook page.
  • Lead the school’s marketing strategy for promotion.

Pay Calculation (Term time only plus three weeks)
  • Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 38 weeks; plus
  • Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
  • Three additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 3 weeks; plus
  • Individual leave entitlement – 5.4 weeks (27 days) for <5 years’ service or 6.4 weeks (32 days) for ≥5 years’ service.

For example, calculation for employees with <5 years’ service:
41 weeks (term time plus 3) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
For employees with ≥5 years’ service:
41 weeks (term time plus 3) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 49 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
