What you will do
  • Independently chair statutory reviews for looked-after children, ensuring their voices are heard and they participate in decision-making.
  • Conduct pre-meetings with children, young people, and professionals to facilitate positive contributions to the review process.
  • Track and ensure accountability for the implementation of recommendations from reviews, involving social workers and relevant agencies.
  • Engage the Dispute Resolution process when necessary and consider referrals to Cafcass for issues like Human Rights infringements.
  • Ensure children’s plans are based on thorough assessments, are current, and meet the genuine needs of each individual.
  • Aid in identifying service gaps and advocate availability to inform children of their rights to support.
  • Monitor the council’s performance as a corporate parent, identifying poor practices through the experiences of looked-after children.
  • Contribute to regional network meetings and collaborate with operational managers to efficiently implement the Looked After Children system.
  • Support training development, delivery, and involvement to align services with government guidance, legislative changes, and research.
  • Assist in producing statistical data and annual service reports to foster service improvements.
