Main duties of the job

Job Role Summary: Salaried General Practitioner (GP)

As a Salaried GP, you will provide high-quality primary care services to patients within the practice. Your role will involve conducting consultations, diagnosing and treating illnesses, and managing chronic conditions. You will be responsible for making referrals to specialists when necessary and ensuring continuity of care for your patients.

In addition to clinical duties, you will participate in practice meetings and contribute to the development of practice protocols. You will also engage in continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain and enhance your medical knowledge and skills.

The role may include specific responsibilities such as teaching medical students or GP trainees, and you may be involved in practice development initiatives. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to deliver patient-centred care and uphold the values and standards of the practice.

The clinic boasts a mixed skill set among its staff, ensuring a wide range of expertise and high-quality patient care. Due to new developments in the area, the clinic is experiencing growth and will soon be relocating to newly built premises to better serve its expanding patient base. Job responsibilities
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Conduct patient consultations, including history taking, examination, diagnosis, investigation, treatment, and referral as appropriate.
    • Manage chronic disease registers and provide ongoing care for patients with long-term conditions.
    • Perform minor surgical procedures and other clinical tasks as required.
  • Ensure continuity of care by maintaining comprehensive and accurate patient records.
  • Provide patient education and counselling on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide appropriate care.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, healthcare assistants, and administrative staff.
    • Participate in practice meetings and contribute to the development of practice protocols and policies.
  • Professional Development:
    • Engage in continuing professional development (CPD) to maintain and enhance medical knowledge and skills.
    • Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Administrative Duties:
    • Complete necessary administrative tasks, including referrals, prescriptions, and patient correspondence.
    • Contribute to the efficient running of the practice by participating in rota management and covering for colleagues as needed.
  • Patient Safety and Quality:
    • Adhere to clinical governance and quality assurance standards.
    • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and ethical standards, including safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Communication:
    • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and carers.
    • Liaise with external healthcare providers and agencies to coordinate patient care.
