Due to an upcoming retirement in February 2026 we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic GP to complete our team of 3 full-time GPs and join our friendly and high performing staff who put the patient at the centre of everything we do. We are offering 8 sessions worked over 4 days on a rota basis with holiday cover as required

Our practice is situated on the beautiful Solway Coast, close to the City of Carlisle and within easy reach of the Lake District. Silloth is a thriving seaside town with plenty of shops and eateries and we also have excellent primary and secondary schools in the area as well as nurseries for pre-school children.

Our patient list size is approx. 4400. We have an excellent nursing team and support staff. We are a high QOF achiever and offer a full range of enhanced services. There is dedicated CPD time and the opportunity to develop special interests and skills. There is no OOH.

Silloth Surgery is a training practice and regularly hosts students and GP registrars

We are one of seven practices belonging to the Keswick & Solway Primary Care Network and have ARRS roles attached to the surgery such as First Contact Physio and Social Prescribers.

The start date for this post will be February 2026.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties, including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at their home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries and correspondence in a time fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Discussing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Developing care plans for health in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols.

Providing counselling and health education.

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Compiling and issuing computer generated acute and repeat prescriptions.

In general the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Person Specification
Experience
  • An interest in women's health and minor surgery would be desirable but not essential.
