Job Title: Safety and Building Services Operative

Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD

Department: Estates

Reporting to: Safety & Building Services Manager

Salary: NSG Business Support Scale 4, Points 18 - 19, £23,555 - £24,631 per annum

Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus bank holidays

Contractual hours: 37 hours per week

Basis: Full time, Permanent

Pension: NEST

Join Our Team

Join our dedicated team at Middlesbrough College, where we take pride in ensuring the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors within the college campus. The Safety and Building Services Operative role is responsible for providing an efficient and effective campus security service including the operation of the CCTV system. The post is a combination of security, porterage and building services duties. Tasks will include meeting and greeting students as they arrive at College, monitoring student behaviour and ensuring it is consistent with the college behavioural standards, and responding to student incidents, where you will need to be able to think quickly and diffuse confrontational situations. The Safety and Building Services operatives provide first aid support and manage fire evacuation procedures. Duties also include assisting with the movement of goods, equipment, and supplies within the college together with performing routine maintenance ensuring all facilities are well‑maintained.

This role involves shift working with weekly rotation between the shifts which is available annually in advance. The shift patterns for this post are currently:

06:00 – 14:30

08:00 – 16:30

13:00 – 21:30

You will be on the weekend rota around once every eight weeks.

We welcome applications for candidates to work term time only (38 weeks) or full time positions.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Provide security services across campus.
  • Operate the CCTV system.
  • Provide First Aid support.
  • Undertake porterage tasks.
  • Support with the fire evacuation process.
  • Support with the goods yard operation.
  • Undertake minor maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide car parking services.
We are looking for candidates that:
  • Hold a valid SIA badge (Frontline Door Supervisor / CCTV Operator) or be willing to work towards.
  • Hold or be willing to work towards appointed person First Aid status.
  • Hold or be willing to work towards IOSH Working Safely (or equivalent).
  • Hold a full, clean driving license – Desirable.
We seek candidates who have experience of:
  • Door Supervision

  • Porterage
  • Fire evacuation
  • Minor maintenance and repairs
