Job description
Overview

The Complex Health Hub is seeking an experienced safeguarding professional to deliver a high-quality, evidence-based service that provides training and expertise in safeguarding for the Trust. The Safeguarding Practitioner will be a highly visible team member, developing, promoting and maintaining high professional standards in safeguarding for unborn babies, children and adults; ensuring the Trust meets its statutory responsibilities for safeguarding. The postholder will be based within the Hub, taking a Think Family approach, working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and multi-agency organisations to coordinate safeguarding responses and promote a shared responsibility. Together with the Named Professionals, the post holder will contribute to the overall Trust safeguarding policies and strategies, providing assurance to the Head of Safeguarding and Complex Health Hub, the Director of Complex Health & Professional Standards, the Executive Lead for Safeguarding and Safeguarding Assurance Committee, and escalate identified areas of concern for improvement. The postholder will provide advice and expertise to fellow professionals, and work with a range of statutory and non-statutory agencies to assist in providing a multi-agency approach to safeguarding.

Responsibilities
  • To support the Named Professionals for Adults, Children and Midwifery in the delivery of the Trust safeguarding service.
  • To retrieve and compile information from health records in response to external agency requests.
  • To provide expert advice, support and guidance to Trust staff that addresses highly complex, sensitive and high-risk safeguarding concerns.
  • To undertake specialist domestic abuse training to ensure that appropriate risk assessments and referrals are made for those experiencing domestic abuse.
  • Application of specialist safeguarding knowledge and associated legislation.
  • Be able to practice confidently in advising on the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
  • Co-ordination of incoming and ongoing work activities.
  • Have responsibility to develop, provide and evaluate safeguarding supervision and training for staff that responds to learning and best practice.
  • To contribute to the development and review of Trust-wide safeguarding policies, protocols and guidance.
  • Management of own workload.
  • Participate as part of the safeguarding team in contributing to and providing regular training for trust-wide staff.
  • Use audit and other quality improvement models to ensure safeguarding and MCA practice is dynamic and evidence-based and impacts practice to improve outcomes.
  • To represent the Trust at external meetings and enhance collaboration.
  • Work effectively with multi-agencies to protect unborn babies, children and adults from harm.
