The Soil Association, formed in 1946, is the only UK charity which works across the spectrum of human health, the environment and animal welfare. That’s because we cannot tackle these issues in isolation. We campaign for change, we support farming innovation, we serve healthy food in communities, we support and grow the organic market, and we protect forests. We couldn't do any of this without our supporters, partners, donors and dedicated staff. We make a difference in the world where it’s needed the most.
SA Exchange works with farmers to measure the environmental impacts of their farm across 6 different metrics – and then delivers bespoke advice on how those scores can be improved. Working alongside a farming advisor the technician’s responsibilities include arranging and carrying out infield assessment for soil and biodiversity. We are expecting 75 farms in Northern Ireland that require soil sampling before April 2026. The role is flexible and you can arrange your own schedule. Full training will be provided and a full job description is attached.
With practical experience in agriculture, environmental or habitat conservation you will understand complex farming environments. You will have a can‑do attitude and be happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions as the job can be physically demanding. You will be a confident communicator who is able to prioritise and meet deadlines. Most importantly, you will be committed to a fairer, more sustainable, and more profitable future for farming.
