Kitchen Assistants needed on an ad hoc basis daily.

£21.40 (umbrella) per hour
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To assist in the cooking, preparation and serving of school meals, maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and other areas used for the catering operation and working at all times within current legislation requirements.
- Provide assistance to the Head of Kitchen in the hot and cold preparation of school meals including basic cookery i.e. steaming vegetables, chopping up fruit for platters and vegetables for salads.
- Provide assistance to the Head of Kitchen in the serving of meals to the services users ensuring all food is well presented and appetising and that the full offer of the menu is available every day and clearly visible to customers.
- To support the Head of Kitchen in the management of pupils with special diets and allergies, including double checking pupil’s special diet needs and ensuring the correct food is served to them.
- Washing up of equipment, including appliances, and the cleaning of the kitchen and other ancillary areas.
- Setting up of the dining room which may include the handling of tables and chairs.
- To work on a rota basis and ensure all duties are carried out efficiently and effectively.
- To ensure all duties are carried out within the constraints of any current legislation i.e Food Hygiene & Safety, Government Standards for school meals and Allergen Management. This would normally include taking and recording of food temperatures under the direction of the Head of Kitchen.
- Ensure all duties and responsibilities are discharged in accordance with the Council’s Health and Safety at Work policy.

- Qualifications & Experience
- Ability to carry out some heavy lifting
- Experience of working in a time pressured practical catering situation.
- The ability to communicate and deal effectively with customers and clients
- The ability to respond flexibly to changes in the needs of the catering service
- Good level of numeracy
- High level of literacy
