Maintaina high standard of women centred care in accordance with Leeds TeachingHospitals Trust guidelines and policies. Act as a referral agent andco-ordinator of care provision. Establishes effective multi-agencycollaboration across the primary/secondary interface to meet the needs of thepatients. Act as a role model for the development of clinical skills andknowledge within the department team. Maintain a safe working environment.Support the Senior Midwife in setting and monitoring standards and seek tocontinuously improve standards and the quality of patient care, includingnational standards. Promote evidence based practice. Participate in the auditand evaluation of clinical practice in the interests of promoting qualitycare. Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation ofmidwifery care for women and their babies, ensuring written records are keptto NMC standards.
LeedsTeaching Hospital Maternity Services support the birth of approximately 9000babies per year. We are a tertiary unit with the largest Fetal Medicine Unitin the North. We also have a Quaternary Paediatric and Cardiac Surgery unitthe largest Congenital Cardiac Service in the North of England and we arespecialists in Prematurity Prevention for Y&H.

JOBPURPOSE
Toprovide midwifery care in whichever setting the woman or baby requirescare. This will include hospital,health centres, childrens centres and womens homes. Tobe responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation andevaluation of programmes of care in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatalperiods. To carry out all relevantforms of care with minimal supervision.
Toregularly take charge of the ward in the absence of the Senior Midwife(Sister). To participate in the in-service training andpreceptorship/mentorship of junior staff, post basic learners and students.
3JOB DIMENSIONS
Thematernity unit has approximately 8,500 births a year. LTHT is a tertiaryreferral centre for both obstetrics and neonatology. Other specialities within the hospital thatimpact on maternity unit are feto-maternal medicine, adult and neonatalcardiology, neonatal surgery and a reproductive medicine unit.
Thepost holder will work within the hospital environment caring for women andtheir babies before, during and after pregnancy depending on the area.
S/heparticipates in rotation throughout the maternity service and covers both day/ night shifts and on call as required by service need.
Themidwife maintains personal contact with women and meets their needs on anindividual basis by listening, assessing, planning, implementing andevaluating care. Is aware of theanxieties of women and their families and the support they may need.
S/hecarries out midwifery care to the highest possible standard according toagreed policies and procedures, as well as the NMC Standards.
Themidwife ensures that the appropriate practitioner is informed promptly of acomplication or change in the mother's or baby's condition.
Sheensures effective communication with health care professionals and otherpersonnel to ensure continued care to the patient and assists in the smoothrunning of the ward/area.
Reportson the changes occurring in treatment and client needs during the shift.
Isprepared to work in areas of the midwifery service other than where based inorder to meet the requirements of the service.
Maintainsthe supply and custody of drugs/medicines etc including keeping agreedregister. Ensures that measuring,administration and recording of all drugs and medicines is carried out inaccordance with the rules of the NMC and according to Trust policy.
